Abstract

In this paper we describe a low cost sensor platform for use in human motion investigations. The platform is based on a readily available low cost microprocessor and features on-board memory, inertial sensors, USB communications and provision for additional sensors. Using a custom designed operating system it is easily customised by someone who has only limited programming experience. In the second part of our paper we present some simple applications for investigating human motion using the on-board sensors. These applications show the user how to collect and download data and then introduces basic data processing techniques to process and analyze the data for key signatures and markers using readily available tools such as Matlab and Mathematica or their freeware equivalents.
