Abstract
This investigation is a unified approach to hydrodynamic oscillator type flowmeters. The relations between fluidic flowmeters and vortex flowmeters are discussed through structural complementarity on the jet and wake. A unified model describing the fluid motion in the hydrodynamic oscillator flowmeter is proposed on the basis of fluid circulation. A detection technique of fluid oscillation frequency is proposed utilizing vortex circulation in the fluidic flowmeters. The results indicate that the observed values of Strouhal numbers of these flowmeters are nearly equal within similar Reynolds number range. The results support the idea of complementarity and kinematic similarity of the hydrodynamic oscillators and justify the unified approach. (from authors' abstract)
