Abstract

An autopsy case of δ agent positive hepatocellular carcinoma with liver cirrhosis of 38-year-old female was reported. In 1974, the patient who was HBsAg carrier received blood transfusion for blood loss during delivery in Hong Kong at 27 year old. Two months later she was admitted to a hospital because of acute hepatitis. Liver biopsy performed in 1976 in U.S.A. revealed chronic hepatitis due to HBV. In 1981, she was referred to Tokyo University Hospital. Her serological examination showed positive HBsAg, HBcAb, HBeAb and δAb. By wedge biopsy liver cirrhosis with positive δ antigen in the nuclei of hepatocytes was demonstrated. In 1985, she died because of hepatocellular carcinoma. At autopsy, HBsAg was observed in liver tissue, but no 8 antigen was found. DNA of hepatitis B virus was not integrated in DNA of cancer cells. This is the second autopsy case of δ agent positive hepatocellular carcinoma in Japan.
