Abstract

The cloning of AIRE, the gene for autoimmune polyendocrinopathy- candidiasis-ectodermal dystrophy (APECED) promises to unravel some of the mysteries of autoimmunity. Here, Part Peterson and colleagues discuss recent studies of AIRE and the implications for disease therapy.
