Abstract

The propagation velocity of the arterial pulse wave is analyzed from the velocity waveform measured with a microscopic laser Doppler velocimeter. The propagation velocity of an arterial pulse wave is deduced from the phase delay of the velocity wave which can be obtained from the measurements of the red blood cell (RBC) velocity at several positions along a single microvessel. The RBC velocity fluctuation at each position was measured with the microscopic laser Doppler velocimeter. It is found that the propagation velocity in arterioles is much slower than that in arteries.
