Abstract
Asymmetrical pulse-shaped modems for coherent and differential QPSK systems are investigated. The authors show that good power spectral density (PSD) characteristics can be obtained by using the asymmetrical pulse shaping on coincident unstaggered quadrature modulations. They also consider the bit error probability performance of these modulations on a hard-limited channel in the presence of uplink and downlink additive Gaussian noise. It is found that the unstaggered modulation with the asymmetrical pulse has better bit error probability performance than QPSK and staggered QORC.
