Abstract

A revised chaotic on-off keying method in microchip laser systems for secure communications was demonstrated. The external modulation of the acousto-optic modulator (AOM) was turned on and off for encoding a digital message in the chaotic carrier. The difference of accuracy of chaos-synchronization between turning on and off of modulation was used to distinguish two binary states in the receiver. Original messages were obtained by filtering the difference of the two laser outputs with a low-pass filter.
