Abstract
Convolutional coding combined with continuous phase modulation (CPM) is well known for its good tradeoff between coding gain and bandwidth. Multi-h modulation has also been introduced to obtain higher power efficiency, but the combination of convolutional coding and multi-h modulation has not previously been reported. The authors consider the combination of conventional coded CPM with multi-h modulation to achieve a larger Euclidean distance. It is found that, in some cases, the proposed convolutional coded multi-h CPM can give considerable gains compared with those of a conventional single-h scheme.
