Abstract
Posterior spinal fusion in patients less than 10 years of age and Risser stage 0, may result in crankshaft phenomenon. Other factors associated with crankshaft phenomena include rotational changes, increased lateral trunk shift, apical rib-vertebral angle, and changes in rib deformity. Crankshaft phenomena can be prevented by an intervertebral anterior spinal fusion in selected cases.
