Abstract

Hyogo Framework for Action 2005 and Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 pointed out the importance of disaster risk reduction (DRR) education. In order to bring scientifically proved DRR knowledge into school education systems, education governance requires the partnership with Science and Technology (S&T). In case of state of Uttarakhand, India, contents of DRR education were modified into local context, format for structural safety check of school buildings was introduced, and teacher’s training materials were developed through the partnership between educational authorities and S&T. This case showed that S&T contributes to develop the location-specific knowledge and can create the partnership with different levels of authority. However, ensuring the sustainability and expanding the partnership to other districts would be the next step forward for better and effective partnership between the education governance and S&T.
