Abstract

We investigated an eradication rate of Helicobacter pylori infection in 63 patients after our new combination therapy of five medicines, and endoscopic findings of gastritis before and after eradication. The regimen consisted of lansoprazole 30 mg and polaprezinc 150 mg for two weeks with three kinds of antibiotics amoxicillin 1.5 g, clarithromycin 400 mg and metronidazole 750 mg for one week. This medication could achieve very high eradication rate of 98.4%. The side effects were seen in 17.4% of the patients. The diarrhea was occupied with 73% of them. Any of them disappeared after the end of taking the antibiotics. We also examined changes of endoscopic findings of gastritis after eradication, and checked up reinfection periodically. The endoscopic findings were improved in 75.8% of cases with successful eradication after 6 months of therapy. Among 33 patients who could be followed with endoscopy for more than one year, reinfection was found in only one case.
