Abstract

The electrode reaction of oxygen and superoxide ion couple was investigated in some amide-type ionic liquids. The solubility and diffusion coefficient of O2 in the ionic liquids were determined by chronoamperometric technique with both macro- and ultramicro- disk electrode. The temperature dependence on the solubility was small in these ionic liquids. The diffusion of O2 was found to be independent of the viscosity of ionic liquids. The rate constant of O2 / O2- couple was also independent of the physical properties of ionic liquids probably because the electrode reaction of O2 / O2- couple involves adsorption and desorption on the electrode surface.
