Abstract

Polythioesters have recently been attracted attention due to their interesting characteristics, such as poor solubility against organic solvents and higher heat stability compared to polyoxyesters. Synthesis of high molecular weight polythioester using an enzyme was studied First, hexane- 1,6-dithiol and diacid diesters were reacted in ethylcyclohexane using lipase CA to prcduce cyclic oligomere with an Mwof a few hundreds. Systhesis of polythoester was studied using these cyclic oligomers. A high molecular weight polythioester having an Mw of about 120,000 was prepared by the ring opening polymerization of cyclic oligomers using lipase CA Thermal and mechanical properties of polythioesters were compared with the omresponding polyoxyester. Degradation of the obtained pdythioester into the cyclic oligomer was an objective for establishing chemical recycling.
