Abstract
Polythioester exhibits some unique characteristics such as high melting point and poor solubility against various solvents. This report covers the synthesis of polythioester and its chemical recycling using the lipase-catalyzed reaction. The Tm and Tc of poly(11MU) were about 20 °C higher than those of the corresponding oxoester analogue. The obtained poly(HMU) was readily degraded by lipase CA in n-nonane to produce the corresponding cyclic oligomers having a molecular weight of few hundreds. These cyclic oligomers were also polymerized into poly(11MU). Chemical recycling of the polythioester using the enzyme can be expected from these results.
