Abstract

In this paper the authors attempt to determine experimentally the electron energy distribution function in steady state non-self-sustaining Townsend discharges in Neon, using the parallel plate retarding potential difference technique. The value of E/P//0 (E equals electric field, P//0 equals gas pressure reduced to 0 degree C) is 220 volt/cm multiplied by (times) Torr. The results are compared with previous theories and problems regarding the traditional method in analyzing the Boltzmann equation are discussed.
