Abstract

GI-POF was expected as a transmission media of short distance network. The establishing of network requires the branching of light. We fabricated negative type GI-POF with UV assisted frontal polymerization technique. Negative type refractive index distribution allowed light power splitting with easy way, contacting the core of POFs. The bandwidth of negative GI fiber was also as high as convex GI fiber in calculation. It was found that fabricated POF could transfer light by twisting two fibers experimentally. UV assisted frontal polymerization technique was an uncomplicated process with good repeatability to form refractive index distribution. Moreover we improved the shape of refractive index profile by determining proper conditions in UV assisted frontal polymerization technique.
