Abstract

The electronic and magnetic structure in layered cobaltite Na 0.75CoO2 were studied. The LDA+U method, where a Hubbard type on-site Coulomb interaction was added to the local-density approximation (LDA), was used for the calculation of the electronic structure of the sodium cobaltite. It was observed that the magnetic moments of Co ions were strongly influenced by the bond distances between the Co and Na ions. The magnetic ground state of the cobaltite was found to the a spin-glass-like, short-range ordered state resulting from randomly distributed magnetic Co ions.
