Abstract

GI-POFs have been prepared by the Interfacial-gel polymerization process so far. However, the formation mechanism of the refractive index profile has not been clarified. In this study, refractive index profiles of GI-preforms prepared in various conditions is analyzed by Index Profiler to investigate the formation process of the refractive index profiles. As a result, it is found that the polymerization speed that is affected by polymerization temperatures and kinds of initiators, and the difference between polymerization temperature and glass-transition temperature of the polymer tube determine the refractive index profile.
