Abstract
In a track-seeking control of hard disk drives (HDDs), a double integrator-model is generally used as the model of the head actuator. On the other hand, in a track-following control, a 2nd-order vibration model is used. It seems that these two models are switched under a certain condition, and the head actuator of HDDs can be modeled as a hybrid system which has a seek mode and a following one. In this paper, an identification method of hybrid system is applied to HDDs and the effectiveness has been evaluated by simulation.
