Abstract
This introductory chapter offers a brief theoretical conceptual overview of the autocracies and autocratization followed by a regional analysis of the regime types and causes of autocratization based on Freedom House and V-Dem dataset. We summarize the consequences of autocratization and the regional patterns and trends based on the contributions of the Handbook in the last two parts.
