Abstract

Bubbles are caused by the hydrodynamically generated negative pressure are generated in the lubricant films of hydrostatic bearings. This phenomenon should be avoided because the bubbles produce undesirable effects on bearing performances. In this study, the limiting conditions of bubble generation in the multirecess hydrostatic thrust and journal bearings are experimentally and theoretically investigated.
