Monte Carlo analysis of influence of phase function on time-resolved reflectance spectroscopy

Abstract

For diagnostic spectroscopy of the biological tissue, methodology to measure the optical properties of small tissue samples is required. Since anisotropic scattering is occurred in the biological tissue, diffusion approximation is no longer valid for light propagation in small sample of tissue. The influence of anisotoropic factor of the tissue sample on time resolved reflectance detected at small source-detector spacing is investigated. The time-resolved reflectance measured with small source-detector spacing is well approximated by the estimated scattering component predicted by Monte Carlo simulation under assumption of anisotropic scattering.
