Abstract

A Monte Carlo simulation is carried out to examine the effect of a strong anisotropy for electron collisions with heavy rare gas molecules on the avalanche breakdown. The following points are considered: (1) The electron orbit is traced in a three-dimensional space; (2) Anisotropic scattering is taken into account through a differential cross section; (3) Surface phenomenon of the electrode is considered; and (4) The electronic state is sampled in an analogous way with an actual experimental condition.
