Abstract
We consider the performance of multidimensional trellis coded phase/frequency modulation (multi-D FPM). The performance of multi-D FPM is investigated by using the minimum squared free Euclidean distance dfree2 and the bit error rate (BER) in additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel. A systematic approach to partition multi-D FPM signal sets is used based on block coding. It is shown that the multi-D FPM has larger coding gain than the corresponding multi-D MPSK and that larger free Euclidean distance of multi-D FPM is obtained by increasing modulation index h.
