Abstract

This paper proposes a novel input-buffered ATM switching system, using a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), called a multiwavelength link ATM (MLA) switch. The proposed MLA switch uses a WDM cell transfer (WCT) scheduling algorithm and a WDM optical interconnection. The WCT scheduling algorithm is simpler, faster, and more efficient than conventional scheduling algorithms. The WDM optical interconnection, which is based on credit-card-sized 10-Gb/s optical transmitter, receiver modules and multiplexing wide channel spacing arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) filters, was developed for next-generation Tb/s ATM switching systems.
