Nanoscale hydrophobic interaction and nanobubble nucleation

Large-scale atomistic simulation of midrange nanoscale hydrophobic interaction, was investigated. The interaction was manifested by the nucleation of nanobubble between nanometer-sized hydrophobes at constrained equilibrium. It was observed that when the length scale of the hydrophobes was greater than 2 nm, the nanobubble formation shows hysteresis behavior resembling the first-order transition. The results show that molecular hydrphobic interaction between two methane molecules becomes slightly stronger with increasing temperature.
