Abstract
A theoretical study of the nonlinear transport in the two-dimensional Wigner solid on the free surface of normal and superfluid 3 He was carried out. The transition from ohmic to nonlinear transport over a wide temperature range was observed from 200 μK to 200 mK at low electron velocities. The field-velocity (E-v) characteristics showed a nonmonotonic structure with a particular local maxima. It was found that the nonlinear E-v characteristics were due to the shape transformation of the surface dimples, which is caused by the strong damping effect inherent in the Fermi liquid at low temperatures.
