Abstract

The origin of the two energy groups of volume produced H- ions observed in the multicusp was analyzed by the three-dimensional Monte Carlo simulation code. The realistic multicusp geometry, the electric field near the filament and the energy relaxation process by Coulomb collision were included in the model by Monte Carlo method. A high energy tail produced mainly by the electric field is observed. The low energy ions with original temperatures increase their energy by Coulomb collisions.
