Abstract

Divertor asymmetry caused by a thermoelectric instability has been studied by 1-1/2 dimensional fluid model. To understand the dynamic process of the instability and its saturation mechanism, time-dependent numerical simulations have been done. Change in sheath potentials at the inner and the outer divertor plate due to the large SOL(Scrape-Off Layer) current plays an important role for the saturation of the instability and also for the resultant stable asymmetric equilibrium.
