Abstract

In this paper, we present a optimal nonuniform lapped biorthogonal transforms for image compression. Subband coding using wavelet transforms have much attention because of multiresolution representation. Wavelet transform is regarded as nonuniform filter bank and is constructed by tree structure of 2 channel filter bank. However it may not optimal in the sense of energy compaction. If we can design nonuniform filter banks directly, it has possibility to overcome the conventional wavelet transform. We then design direct-structured nonuniform filter bank with lapping window, we call NULBT. Finally, we show some examples and confirm the validity of our method.
