Abstract

Mode coupling due to the intrinsic heterogeneities in graded-index plasitc optical fiber (GI POF) core was studied. The coupled power equation was modified with consideration of the isotropic random heterogeneities and the dependence of the power coupling coefficient to the correlation characteristics of the microscopic heterogeneous structure was discussed. It suggested that the mode coupling between the guided modes is maximized for the specific correlation length of the heterogeneities.
