Abstract
In general, it is difficult to deliver a drug to the brain transvascularly due to the blood-brain barrier. To develop a method for drug delivery to the brain, a modality that enables imaging both of the cerebral blood vessels and a drug is needed. In this study, we developed a compact photoacoustic imaging system, by which label-free imaging of the cerebral blood vessels in a rat was performed in vivo. By compensating the attenuation of excitation light in brain tissue, blood vessels with diameters larger than 50 μm were visualized in the depth range up to ~2 mm.
