Abstract

We report a study about the effect of the excitation polarization on the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) in a rhodamine-6G-doped graded-index polymer optical fiber (POF) when the fiber is transversally pumped with respect to the symmetry axis. We show that both the threshold energy for ASE and the intensity of the emitted amplified radiation are dependent on the polarization of the excitation beam. The spectral characteristics of the ASE spectrum obtained for the two pump polarizations are compared.
