Abstract

We summarize some recent developments in theoretical studies on the progenitors of Type la supernovae (SNe la): (1) merging of double degenerates and associated off-center carbon ignition, (2) mass-stripping from the companion star by white dwarf winds, (3) the formation of circumstellar matter and the young population of SNe la, (4) delay time distribution in the single degenerate scenario, and (5) the origin of the transient heavy element absorption systems observed in novae.
