Abstract
The progress of the GI polymer optical fiber (GI POF) for high-speed data communication is reviewed. It was experimentally confirmed that the gigabit data transmission for several hundred meter at 1.3-μm wavelength was enabled by the low-loss perfluorinated (PF) polymer base GI POF. We describe an improvement in the thermal stability and long-term reliability of the GI POF which is one of the key issues in order to realize the high speed POF network. We believe that these progresses of low-loss perfluorinated polymer base GI POF have triggered the realization of the high-speed POF network.
