Abstract

The paper proposes a method for analyzing experimental data errors and for determining the thermodynamic surface. The experimental data are processed with the aid of ″sub-surfaces″ , and the random and systematic errors of those are revealed. Based on the error analysis, the experimental error of each data source is evaluated and the thermodynamic surface is obtained as the average of the available data sources. Available experimental pressure-volume-temperature data of water in the range of tempertures from 273 to 1173 K to a maximum pressure of 1 GPa are processed and the experimental errors are analyzed systematically, then the experimental data sources are evaluated quantitatively.
