The effect of the space-time coupling, especially the influence of slight misalignment of optics, on the shaped pulse profiles is analyzed. The effect causes spatially filtered shaped pulse profiles and there is a significant space-time coupling in the shaped pulse profile which is not easy to characterize. A scheme is proposed to predict the spatio-temporal profile only from the measurement of the spatial profile. To arbitrarily shape the spatio-temporal profile of shaped pulses, a multidimensional pulse shaping scheme is presented. When properly designing both spatial and temporal shape masks by taking account of the space-time coupling in the pulse shaper, one can synthesize complicated pulse profiles in the space-time plane.
