Abstract

In a small capacity omni-use terminal satellite system, a low bit rate, less than about 32 kb/s, is required for the speech encoding bit rate in satellite transmission section, so as to realize transmitting power reduction and a small diameter antenna for a portable earth base station. Overall system speech quality, including telephone sets, telephone circuit and encoding equipment, was evaluated.
