Abstract

Free form surfaces have been used for constructing appearance forms of industrial products. Although computer systems like CAD software have been developed, construction of a form by high quality surfaces is still not easy work. In the automobile industry, a designed car-form is evaluated by highlight lines. When a designed car-form does not present desired highlight liens on purpose, the re-designing process of the form is repeated. In this study, a method to automatically construct an aesthetic form based on highlight lines which can be interactively given by designer was proposed. In addition, the fundamental system based on the method was developed and its validity was confirmed by simple tests.
