The thermal conductivity of mixtures of carbon dioxide with three noble gases

Abstract

The paper reports new measurements of the thermal conductivity of mixtures of carbon dioxide with the three monatomic gases helium, neon and argon. The measurements have been performed at 27.5°C and in the pressure range 0.7-11 MPa. The accuracy of the reported data is estimated to be one of ±0.3%. In the limit of zero-density the existing kinetic theory formulae do not represent the experimental data within their uncertainty. In particular, for argon-carbon dioxide mixtures the equations fail qualitatively owing to the importance of inelastic collisions. At elevated densities a semi-empirical calculation scheme provides only a moderate representation of the experimental results.
