Abstract

Birefringence in polymers degrades the performance of optical devices. Birefringence is categorized into two types. One is orientational birefringence, the other is photoelastic birefringence. In this report, we proposed the method to design the polymers which exhibited no orientational birefringence and no photoelastic birefringence. We synthesized a ternary copolymer and a binary copolymer containing an anisotropic dopnat which exhibited close to zero birefringence.
