Abstract

The surgical procedure of the zygomatic transpetrosal approach, which is the method for 1-stage removal of dumbbell-shaped parasellar and posterior fossa chordoma, is described. This approach is the combination of the zygomatic frontotemporal epidural approach and the anterior transpetrosal approach. The parasellar intracavernous component is removed by the zygomatic frontotemporal epidural approach, and the posterior fossa component is removed by the anterior transpetrosal approach. By using this combined approach, the dumbbell-shaped tumor located in 2 distinct components can be removed by 1-stage surgery.
