A Reader System with Single-Step Self-Jamming Cancellation for 0.86mm2 Passive RFID Tags with an On-chip Antenna

This paper reports a software-defined reader system with single-step self-jamming cancellation and signal-to-interference ratio improvement techniques, which can detect a backscattered signal from an 0.86mm2 passive tag chip with an on-chip antenna. The optimum self-jamming cancellation setting determined by using a pre-constructed lookup table and a leading bit waveform subtraction technique makes it possible to detect the ID of the passive tags. Developed a prototype reader system that successfully demonstrated communication at a distance of a centimeter range for the first time.
