抄録

The concurrent design method for impression and function is effective in determining an accurate design solution in a short period of time, in order to place products on the market at the right time in tune with users’ needs. The first half of this paper introduces two examples of concurrent design methods in a vehicle’s interior. The second half discusses the application of concurrent design methods to product development, referring to the examples above. As a result, although quantification of impression is effective in determining a compatible design solution for impression and function, it is not applied to the creation of unknown value. Therefore, the application of concurrent design methods for impression and function using the grey-box model, which combines quantitative design methods (glass-box models) with qualitative design methods (black-box models) that rely on expert designers, should be carried out under in-house strategic management.
