Adsorption and desorption of hydrogen on Al(110) have been studied by means of thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS), low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and high resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS). It was found that the desorption of aluminum hydrides from H/Al(110) is almost completely suppressed compared with a H/Al(111) system. LEED measurements indicated that the adsorbed hydorgens atoms induce a (1×2) reconstruction of the Al(110) surface. HREELS measurements suggested that the hydrogen atoms are adsorbed at both the terminal sites and the short bridge sites of the [110] Al rows.
