Method for Designing Geometry of Vibrator of Linear Ultrasonic Motor Using Evolutionary Computation (1st Report, Formulation and Results of Generating Basic Geometry)

Geometry design of vibrators for linear ultrasonic motors is not easy because the vibrator has many designing parameters and so the solution space has large nonlinear characteristics. Usual designing method due to try and error by designers are not optimized. So, it is difficult to design small -sized and high-performance linear ultrasonic motors. In this study, a method is proposed for designing the vibrator for the linear ultrasonic motors using genetic algorithms and finite element method. As a result, geometry of the vibrator for small-sized linear ultrasonic motors is generated. Size is within ten millimeters wide and twenty millimeters long. Obtained geometry of the vibrator satisfies all the settled designing conditions.
