We have developed compact ozone water sensors utilizing boron-doped diamond (BDD) electrodes for precise measurements of dissolved ozone concentrations in ozone water. To enhance sensor sensitivity, repeated linear sweep voltammetry treatments were applied to the BDD working electrodes in ozone water, resulting in the formation of covalent double bonds between carbon and oxygen (O-C=O) on the BDD surfaces. These bonds significantly improved the electrochemical properties of the BDD electrodes, enabling higher detection sensitivity compared to electrodes oxidized by applying a constant potential. The formation of O-C=O bonds on BDD surfaces was identified as a key factor in enhancing sensitivity for dissolved ozone detection. The developed compact ozone water sensors achieved rapid measurement times of ∼10 s, making them suitable for on-site applications requiring both accuracy and efficiency. This study demonstrates the potential of BDD-based sensors for diverse applications, including environmental monitoring, water treatment, and sterilization processes.
