In order to facilitate the mobility of non-Japanese tourists driving temporarily in Japan, this study examined the driving behavior of non-Japanese drivers when using various types of route guidance information. This information consisted of a conventional paper map, arrow displays with tonal signals and Japanese and English voice information, and car-navigation systems with Japanese and English voice information. Driver behavior during driving to destinations based on route guidance information was measured in this research with a driving simulator. Data on driver behavior was evaluated from the viewpoints of subjective mental workload, ease of route selection, visual behavior and driving maneuvers.
