The advances in the fiber bandwidth of perfluorinated (PF) polymer based graded-index polymer optical fibers (GI-POF) were discussed. The small dispersion of the fibers enabled 10 Gb/s order data transmission, which is difficult to achieve in conventional silica based multimode fibers. The refractive index profile in the GI-POF fibers is formed by the interfacial-gel polymerization process, which minimizes the modal dispersion. The fiber has important applications in high speed data communication for local area networks.
