抄録

Atomic force microscopic observation gave atom-resolved images of surface structure in air of cleaved K4Nb6O17·3H2O, which has two kinds of interlayers with and without water molecules. The images obtained show arrangement of oxygen and potassium atoms at a surface formed by the cleavage at the watercontaining interlayer. However, the observed pattern corresponds to that of anhydride instead of trihydrate, indicating desorption of water molecules upon cleavage.
